First annual Run 4 Hope 5k!
This race is to help raise money for a 19 year old local student and runner to obtain a service dog. Shelby, who is a type one diabetic of 13 years, is in need of a service dog to help her through life. Diabetes is a life threatening chronic illness that cannot be cured. It is a daily battle for her and she needs help to fight it!
DAD's (Diabetic Alert Dog's) are trained to alert you when your blood sugar goes out of range, which can be very dangerous and life threatening if untreated. SO many things affect your blood sugar levels, exercise, stess, different emotions, sleep, and even being out in the heat too long! It creates constant stress for her as she tries her best to control it.
However, going to college in the fall, having a job, and competitive running will be an extra struggle for her because of diabetes. But with the help of a service dog, she will be able to do all these things and more! Please come out to support and run for a cause as we help not only Shelby, but in the years to come, other diabetics who are in the same situation!
We encourage runners and/or walkers of all ages to come out and join us! Everyone who registers before 10:00p.m. on July 26th will receive a t-shirt. We will also be doing overall and age group awards.
