Foothills Drifter 6K Trail Race
The 8th annual Foothills Drifter 6K is the only trail run of its kind in Greenville, S.C. A festive atmosphere welcomes both advanced and novice runners.
The race benefits Lake Conestee Nature Park which consists of approximately 400 acres of beautiful natural habitat on the Reedy River just 6 miles south of downtown Greenville, South Carolina and is the "southern hub" of the Swamp Rabbit Trail.
This race was oriignated by Mahalia Peck, then of Half-Moon Outfitters, and Mike Foley, of Go-Green Events, in 2010 as a way to support the struggling Lake Conestee Nature Park. The goal was to help supply needed funds to expand the trail network at the Nature Park. To date, the event raised thousand and thousands of dollars all earmarked for trail construction.
The event was named after Clint Eastwood's epic movie, "High Plains Drifter," in which Clint struggled against seemingly insurmountable difficulties much as runners did at the inaurgual event in 2010 where snow, sleet and freezing rain pelted runenrs as they traversed trails, boardwalks and bridges coated with 2 inches of ice.
So, the 8th annual Foothills Drifter 6K is a rain/sleet/snow or shine event. We have every intention of forging ahead regardless of weather and hope you are all up to the task! If Mother Nature brings it again, we think Clint Eastwood would want each of you to bundle up, strap on your running shoes and show us what you are made of!
The 6K course will include as many dirt trails -- and as little asphalt -- as possible. We estimate about 60 percent trail/40 percent asphalt.
